PS Productions will work on its first non-Sony intellectual property, as it’s been pulled in to produce a Resident Evil reboot by Barbarian director Zach Cregger.

The film – set to release in theatres on 18th September, 2026 – was being shopped around, with Warner Bros allegedly interested in distributing it. But having released all of the previous Resident Evil movies, Sony is clinging to the rights and hoping for a hit here.

Cregger has co-written the screenplay with Shay Hatten, and while details remain under wraps, it’s said this movie will go back to the roots of the Capcom franchise.

“I’ve been a rabid fan of these games for decades, and to be able to bring this amazing title to life is a true honour,” the Barbarian maker told Deadline.

Sony Pictures’ Sanford Panitch added: “Zach is one of the most talented exciting new directors to come on the scene in many years. His brilliant approach in restarting and refreshing this legendary Sony franchise instantly makes this one of our most important releases in 2026.”
