Onimusha Way of the Sword Details

If you’re the type to bemoan the fact that AAA games just seem to be getting bigger and bigger, you’ll like what Capcom’s had to say about Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

In a new interview with Famitsu (as translated by Automaton), director Satoru Nihei and producer Akihito Kadowaki drop some key information regarding the recently revealed title.

In terms of game length, we’re apparently looking at a 20-ish hour adventure, with linear progression. That is to say, the developer’s sticking to the traditional Onimusha blueprint; this is about cleaving your way through dedicated levels, rather than exploring a big open world.

And while there remains a clear focus on combat — complete with the return of devastating Deadly Strikes — the duo suggest that Way of the Sword will also feature puzzle-like elements, similar to what you’ll find in past instalments.

Interestingly, the interview goes on to confirm that this is will basically be a standalone story with very little connection to previous Onimusha games. That doesn’t come as a huge surprise, we suppose, given how long the franchise has been out of commission — but we’re left wondering whether Way of the Sword is Capcom’s attempt at fully rebooting the property.
