Massive PS Plus Clearout Announced for May, 22 Games Leaving

Sony has finally updated the Last Chance to Play section of its PS Plus service on PS5, and the latest set of PS5, PS4 game removals doesn’t make for good reading. A whopping 22 titles are being taken off PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, and this time, it even includes PS3 classics.

All leaving on 20th May 2025, the games set for removal are:

The Sims 4: Island Living (PS4)
Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3) — PS Plus Premium
Resistance 2 (PS3) — PS Plus Premium
Walkabout Mini Golf (PS5) — PS Plus Premium
Synth Riders (PSVR2) — PS Plus Premium
Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord (PSVR2) — PS Plus Premium
Before Your Eyes (PSVR2) — PS Plus Premium
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners (PSVR2) — PS Plus Premium
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution (PSVR2) — PS Plus Premium
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 (PS4)
Stranded: Alien Dawn (PS5, PS4)
The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame (PS5)
Ghostrunner (PS5, PS4)
Payday 2: Crimewave Edition (PS4)
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (PS4)

As the PS Plus service went through a similarly sized overhaul in May 2024, this level of game removal was somewhat expected. However, the classic titles like Resistance were assumed to be staying as permanent additions since they’re first-party PS3 streaming games. This doesn’t appear to be the case, however. This is the second-biggest PS Plus clearout Sony has ever had, as 25 games were removed last year.

All the games listed above will be removed from the PS Plus service on 20th May, at which point a new selection of games will be cycled in. You won’t be able to continue playing the removed titles unless you buy a copy.

That’s a big hit to the PSVR2 gamers… I know there aren’t many of us but still.

Just confirms my decision no to renew in June I think.

Adding another The Sims 4 DLC, just to remove it and break any save games that’ve played it is an awful move.

@TheFakulty doubtful about a resistance remaster. Those 2 games only got added to the service 6 months ago. More likely that Sony saw no one was playing them so are taking them off. As being ps3 titles, they have to be streamed which uses up more of their resources for little pay off.

It’s still good value but at the same time the value is decreasing. Every month there’s more games leaving the service than what’s getting added and they have just raised the prices, so you’re now paying more but for less content than before.

Im sure they’ll also add more games than usual because of Days of Play. Or give us a bigger discount with Days of Play because less games in the service. Right, Sony ?

It’s understandable that third party games will be removed after a while. First party should stay locked in the service. There’s no excuse why old games like infamous are removed.

Smart action once again to time this right after all the news concerning the price increases. The value of the service has only been getting worse and worse after the tiers were introduced.

First-party titles shouldn’t leave the service. I own inFamous Second Son, so my focus will be on the Resistance games before they leave.

The only real loss for me is Pay Day 2, though I think I picked up a physical copy after logging so many hours on the Plus+ version. Bloodstained too (now that I look closer) that was my first metrdoidvania (?) and it left a really good impression, I pushed all the way to platinum and still feel like I didn’t see everything. I tried Stranded Alien Dawn too but the UI was so awful that I had to stop after an hour. I’m pretty sure someone on here mentioned starting Ghostrunner recently too.

@PloverNutter Sony is probably quite unhappy with the need for PS3 streaming due to the high costs, so this should really be the reason for removing the Resistance games.

I guess that Sony is currently working on a recompiling tool to run PS3 games natively on PS5. And this takes some time. Sony surely wants to get rid of PS3 server boards with their very special chips.

Removing games from the Premium tier? Especially PS3 games which are available only in this tier? What’s the use of having customers paying more for it then ?!?!?! It just makes NO SENSE.

Really odd seeing old first party games leave Plus. Full of hopium on this but if the two Resistance games leaving means we’re getting a remaster trilogy id be pretty happy.

Weird they’ll removing resistance after just adding it not to long ago, maybe make room on the PS3 sever blades for some new PS3 games. Infamous second son removal is also really weird unless they’re about to announce a remaster of it lol.
