Varlet is described as a ‘school life RPG’ in a similar vein to the Persona games. Basically, a bunch of teenagers have to balance their educations with otherworldly escapades.

Heading to PS5 on the 28th August via a worldwide release, Varlet’s from developer Aquria, which most recently crafted 2023’s CRYMACHINA. The Japanese studio’s also behind several of the Sword Art Online games and The Caligula Effect.

Mechanically, Varlet’s promising depth through its ‘Triad’ system, which determines available dialogue options and combat skills based on your decisions throughout the game’s story.
