GTA 6 Publisher Supports Rockstar in 2026 Delay, Commits to ‘Excellence’

Take-Two, the publisher backing Rockstar Games in its work on GTA 6, has spoken of its support for the developer after it confirmed the upcoming PS5, Xbox Series X|S title has been delayed to 26th May 2026.
In a press release, chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said: “We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations.”
Zelnick continued by explaining that while the company takes the movement of its game releases seriously and really appreciates the excitement surrounding GTA 6, it’ll “remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence. As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline, we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders.”
In response to today’s GTA 6 delay announcement, Take-Two stock has dropped dramatically:
GTA 6 will now release for current-gen consoles on 26th May 2026, pushing it well out of the originally announced Fall 2025 release window. In its own statement, Rockstar Games said it’ll have more information to share “soon”. It added: “We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
