Assassin’s Creed Shadows Was Such a Hit, Ubisoft’s Delaying Unannounced Games

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been a much needed hit for Ubisoft amongst its business-side woes, and its success has actually prompted the publisher to push back other projects.

You may recall that Shadows itself was delayed well beyond its original November 2024 release date. It was first moved to February 2025, before being delayed again to the 20th March — the date that ended up sticking.

By all accounts, the extra development time certainly helped, and having now reaped the benefits of launching a well-received product, Ubisoft has delayed a number of unannounced titles, which are currently in the works.

This is according to the company’s latest financial briefing, in which Ubisoft is surprisingly candid about its plans — although it doesn’t go as far as to detail those aforementioned unannounced games.

“After a thorough review of its pipeline that took place from October to December, the Group decided to provide additional development time to some of its biggest productions in order to create the best conditions for success,” the publisher explains.

“This decision has already been beneficial to the quality of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.”

With this strategy in mind, Ubisoft is hoping to see some “significant growth” over the next few fiscal years. The bottom line here is that it wants — and arguably needs — its heaviest hitters to be as commercially successful as possible.

And if internal delays help make that goal a reality, then that appears to be the call.
