Crossplay a Top Priority for Soccer Sensation Rematch

It’s rare for major multiformat multiplayer games to launch without crossplay these days, but Rematch has hit an unexpected snag at kick-off.
While the release is blowing up across all platforms, it sounds like Sifu developer Sloclap is quietly fighting fires, as it’s nixed crossplay due to “unforeseen technical complexities”.
Fortunately, it sounds like it has a fix in the offing.
“We understand many of you were looking forward to playing Rematch across platforms from day one,” the studio said in a statement.
“We did our utmost to include crossplay at launch, but Rematch is the studio’s first crossplay title, and we faced unforeseen technical complexities which prevented us from having this feature ready in time.
“We should have communicated as soon as it became apparent that crossplay wouldn’t be available at launch, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience and frustration it caused to some of our players.”
Sloclap says adding in crossplay is its “absolute highest priority” and it’s “committed to delivering this feature swiftly”.
Despite the game launching today, it sounds like the studio’s got its work cut out: it’s plotting tournament and leaderboard systems, training modes against bots, and the ability to spectate matches. Ironically, it also hopes to implement faster rematches.
The team will be buoyed by the early success of this title, then, but it’s going to need to iterate fast if it hopes to hold on to its players. Assuming it can, though, this could be the next Rocket League-like sensation – and we’re curious whether it will even threaten to steal some players away from EA Sports FC 25.
