Look, we’ll hold our hands up: we’re partly responsible for this outcome. When we heard John Marston’s voice actor hyping up “exciting news”, we assumed it was all connected to the strong rumours regarding a PS5 version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

You could forgive us for being even more certain when fellow stars like Arthur Morgan’s Roger Clank joined in.

But as discovered by Reddit, it looks like there’s going to be a cast reunion at the National Gaming Expo in Tampa, Florida from 8th August to 10th August.

Reset the clocks, folks – this one was very much a false alarm!

Update #2 [Wed 18th Jun 2025, 1:15pm]: This is how these things usually go, isn’t it? Admittedly, when John Marston’s voice actor Rob Wiethoff teased exciting news, we put two-and-two together based on other existing rumours.

Now the star has backed away slightly from his original comments which went viral.

“I do not make announcements for Rockstar Games,” he said. “Rockstar Games makes announcements for Rockstar Games. And they don’t use me to do that.”

While Wiethoff didn’t confirm or deny anything, he admitted that he may have “misled some people”, but reiterated that there’s still exciting news on the way. Arthur Morgan’s voice actor Roger Clark already said he knew what this entailed.

So, what exactly is going on here? We should find out by the end of the week.

Update #1 [Tue 17th Jun 2025, 11:45am]:

Hot on the spurred boots of John Marston actor Rob Wiethoff’s comments about an exciting announcement this week, Arthur Morgan’s Roger Clark has poured fresh whiskey on the Red Dead Redemption 2 PS5 rumours.

Asked on X (or Twitter) if he knew what Wiethoff’s exciting news entailed, he replied with a smirking dog GIF and the caption “yes”. Noshir Dalal, who played Charles Smith in the game, is also seemingly in the know.

It’s clear at this point that something is happening with Red Dead Redemption 2 imminently, and all of the smoke points to some kind of imminent re-release on PS5. We should find out for certain by the end of the week.

Original Story: There’s a good chance Red Dead Redemption 2’s long-awaited PS5 version could be announced within the next few days.

While we’re connecting a lot of dots to create this story, we already know from respectable sources that Rockstar is plotting a current-gen version of its jaw-dropping open world opus for release later this year.

And now Rob Wiethoff, the voice of John Marston, has teased “exciting news” on a stream. While he confirms he can’t share the information just yet, he says everyone should know “before Friday”, 20th June.

Wiethoff – who looks like he’s about to explode from excitement – adds that it’s all he can “think about […] especially while playing [Red Dead Redemption]”.
