Rematch, the uber-awesome Rocket League without cars soccer-style arcade game, is doing incredibly well.

Sifu developer Sloclap has announced that the title has surpassed one million units sold already, and has racked up three million players across all platforms.

It’s worth noting that the game is available on Xbox Game Pass, so that’ll certainly be having an impact on these numbers – presumably reducing full-price sales on Microsoft’s system but boosting the number of users overall.

While we don’t really have any data for PS5 yet, it’s among the top ten best-selling games in the United States – and it’s currently third on the list in the UK. Given this is based on the beautiful game, we’d expect a chunk of its sales to be stemming from Europe.

Over on Steam, the release peaked with 92,841 players. This isn’t indicative of total sales, but the highest number of people all logged in at once. It’s been holding fairly steady since launch, too, despite server issues.

All of this is to say we think the studio may have a hit on its hands. We certainly liked what we played in our Rematch PS5 review:

Rematch is very close to being a brilliant online sports title, and we’re confident it can reach its full potential with the right updates and post-launch support. The gameplay has depth, and successful team play is super rewarding. Once it gets past its early teething issues, this has real potential to take off.

We can’t help but wonder what EA Sports makes of this so far. Obviously, the release is no real threat to EA Sports FC 25, but it’s clear it’s not the only football game in town anymore. (No offense eFootball, but you’re dead to us until we get that previously promised Master League mode!)
