Ambitious, AAA PS5 Exclusive to Deliver Ground-Breaking Story and Atmosphere

UK-based Sony studio Firesprite is talking a big game when it comes to its next PS5 project.
The studio – which worked on PSVR2 launch title Horizon Call of the Mountain and before that horror roguelike The Persistence – has posted a job listing for an “ambitious, AAA project”.
The role, for a Cinematic Producer at the studio’s digs in Liverpool, references a “heavy focus on atmosphere, storytelling, player agency, and immersion”.
Here’s the full quote, which probably could have used proof reading by whoever wrote it:
“This is an ambitious, AAA project with a heavy focus on atmosphere, storytelling, player agency and immersion into ground-breaking territory on next-generation hardware technologies.”
The rest of the job listing largely focuses on roles and responsibilities. Candidates are expected to be an “expert in collaborating across cinematic fields to make memorable, emotional, and cinematic experiences, with a strong understanding of narrative, cinematic production, and post-production pipelines within video games”.
This project is rumoured to be codenamed Heartbreak, and is said to be a survival horror game.
There has been some speculation it could be a sequel to Until Dawn, which would certainly vibe with some of the content in the job listing.
Personally, we’re curious how much appetite there is for more Until Dawn these days: the movie tripled its budget, but only pulled in a paltry $53.2 million, so wasn’t exactly a big hit. Meanwhile, last year’s PS5 remake appeared to flop, and developer Ballistic Moon ended up closing down.
Of course, if Firesprite has a bold new take on the franchise, then we’re sure it could resonate, but it feels like the opportunity for a sequel has long since passed – the original PS4 game is almost a decade old at this point!
Are you optimistic for what Firesprite’s cooking? Would you like a sequel to Until Dawn, or prefer something new? Make all the wrong decisions in the comments section below.
