French publisher Nacon is teaming up with Edge of Eternity developer Midgar Studios on a new PS5 RPG, and it probably deserves more attention.

Edge of Memories is an action RPG with an anime flavour, and it’s packing a soundtrack featuring singer Emi Evans (NieR: Automata) and composer Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger). That’s some serious pedigree.

The story summary is filled with proper nouns, but basically all you need to know is that you play as Eline, and working alongside a ragtag group of teammates, you must bring an end to a cataclysmic event known as The Corrosion.

Unlike Edge of Eternity, the dev’s ditching turn-based combat and opting for real-time action instead.

“Your allies are the key to victory,” the blurb reads. “Customise your companions, and use their skills wisely to inflict more damage at crucial moments.” So, it looks and sounds like you’ll need to issue commands to your companions while also dealing damage yourself.

The release promises a rich open world to explore, powered by Unreal Engine 5. Despite the evident scale, however, there’ll be no “filler”, as the studio insists every quest will matter.
