It’s a great era for fighting games, but not every title attracts the attention of the heavy hitters, like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8.

That’s why we wanted to take a moment to spotlight Pocket Bravery, which is out now on the PS5 and PS4.

The game’s clearly been inspired by the Neo Geo Pocket Color, specifically games like Fatal Fury First Contact, with its chunky character sprites and dramatic backdrops.

According to the press materials, the title’s been designed with both genre newbies and veterans in mind, so you can have a good time regardless of your skill level. There’s even an elemental-based special move system which adds some originality to the release.

With a full-length story campaign as well as various other single player modes and rollback netcode, this is an impressively complete package. The only thing we’re not really keen on is the cutscene character art, which looks a bit out of place next to the authentic retro presentation.
