Everything’s been pretty quiet on the long-rumoured Final Fantasy 9 remake front for a few weeks now, but an update to the official 25th anniversary website’s got fans talking again.

Said website was launched back at the end of March, commemorating 25 years of the classic PS1 RPG. At the time, Square Enix teased “various announcements”, with celebrations expected to carry through until the 7th July — the game’s initial Japanese release date in 2000.

Anyway, the website now has a dedicated ‘Character’ section, which, at the time of writing, lists four key party members: Zidane, Vivi, Garnet, and Steiner. Each hero has their own short biography, accompanied by new artwork from veteran character designer Toshiyuki Itahana.

Generally speaking, character introductions like this tend to be added to official websites ahead of a project’s launch — and so there’s renewed hope for this rumoured remake of Final Fantasy 9. It should also be noted that the aforementioned biographies don’t spoil any plot points from the game — they’re quite clearly aimed towards a wider audience.
