A new Helldivers 2 cape, available for free for all players, pays homage to the game’s brutal review bombing campaign.

For those who don’t recall, Arrowhead Studios – under instruction from publisher Sony – implemented a controversial PSN login requirement on PC shortly after the title’s explosive launch.

This went down atrociously with the title’s sizeable fanbase, resulting in one of the most brutal review bombing campaigns in recent memory. The decision was eventually reversed, and PlayStation has since made PSN optional across all of its PC releases.

You may notice, the pattern of those negative reviews is similar to the new Pillars of Freedom cape. The studio did always say it’d turn the backlash into a free cosmetic for fans.

We suppose owning something like this is the best way to deal with it, even if we personally feel the reaction was overblown.
