#Hideki Kamiya Wants to Remake the Original Devil May Cry, Would Make Design Changes

Hideki Kamiya, director of the original Devil May Cry, has expressed interest in remaking it — and it wouldn’t just be a visual upgrade.

Speaking on his YouTube channel in a Q&A video, Kamiya is asked about remaking the game and how he might improve it.

“Of course I’d love to do that,” he says, reminiscing about the 2001 action game.

“Once in a while, I catch gameplay clips and think, ‘yeah, this really does feel like 24-year-old game design,” he continues.

“With today’s technology and game design approach, of course I’d want to remake it from the ground up,” Kamiya says, suggesting he’d make some deeper changes than just a graphical overhaul.

He says if the project ever seriously comes about, he’ll “come up with something” and urges Capcom to leave it to him.

As an aside, he also asks the publisher to let him tackle a remake of Viewtiful Joe.

A while ago, rumours of a DMC1 remake came about when Vergil voice actor Daniel Southworth teased a project where he was asked to adopt his young Vergil voice. Whether that holds any water is a bit shaky, but whatever the case, there does seem to be interest in reviving the game, at least.
