It’s worth noting that this is a Mortal Kombat game, so it still topped five million units, but it did so slower than predecessors Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat X.

A lot of content, then, but fans aren’t happy after NetherRealm Studios said it’d support the game for “years to come” but appears to be wrapping things up after 20 months.

“I’m not gonna lie,” one Reddit user said, “I think I’m done with NRS for a while. They did this with MK11 and I was hoping it was just a one-time thing and they’d learn their lesson. It’s my fault for giving them benefit of the doubt. Never again.”

Another added: “Death, taxes, and WB Games making a bafflingly stupid choice which further ruins what little good faith people had left for them.”

While the support for Mortal Kombat 1 may have seemed strong for those looking from the outside, it’s worth noting that fighting games tend to have incredibly long tails.
