Peak Polygonal Dogfighting Targeting PS5, PS4 in Air Combat 22 Port

The Arcade Archives line is absolutely on fire.
Earlier this month we got an arcade perfect port of the original Ridge Racer, and now as Ace Combat celebrates its 30th anniversary, we’re getting a conversion of Air Combat 22 on the PS5 and PS4.
It’s due out this week, on 3rd July.
This game originally launched in 1995 on Namco’s state-of-the-art (at the time) System Super 22 arcade board. It’s a sequel to the 1993 title Air Combat, which would later be adapted for the PS1 and form the foundation of the Ace Combat franchise.

Here’s how Japanese studio Hamster Corporation describes it:
“This title features an evolutionary step in 3D graphics and flashy animations using the System Super 22 arcade board, an upgrade of the System 22 architecture used for a wide range of legendary 3D games. Take on missions for the thrill of shooting down lots of enemy crafts, white-knuckle missions that require expert techniques, and more as you conquer diverse aerial combat scenarios. Become a hero of the skies!”
As with all Arcade Archives releases, you can expect a suite of features and improvements, including leaderboards and more.
But like with Ridge Racer, the more expensive PS5 version will feature further enhancements, such as rewind and a time attack mode.
That means you’ll be paying $16.99 on the PS5 and $14.99 on the PS4, though a $2.99 upgrade fee will be available for those who purchase on Sony’s last-gen console. Obviously these are a little on the pricey side from our perspective, but the ports are of a high quality at least.
