Random: Square Enix, Nomura Have the Most Kingdom Hearts Social Media Exchange Imaginable

Kingdom Hearts III PS4 PlayStation

As it’s been several more months since we went 1000 days without any word at all regarding Kingdom Hearts IV, Square Enix’s social media post highlighting a recent exchange between itself and director Tetsuya Nomura immediately perked our ears up. We really should have known better.

Celebrating the series’ 23rd anniversary (thanks, GamesRadar+), publisher Square Enix asked Nomura if he had any obscure paopu fruit lore he’d care to share with a starving audience. As we all know, this star-shaped fruit is native to the Destiny Islands, and as established in the original Kingdom Hearts:

“If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They’ll remain a part of each other’s lives no matter what.”

The Square Enix team asked Nomura if “there are any untold stories behind the paopu fruit?”

Nomura responded with, “You mean the Paradise of Promise?”

We could already feel our blood pressure rising at this point, but pressed on for the sake of a story.

Square Enix tried again: “Did the word ‘paopu’ come from combining the words ‘Paradise of Promise’?”

Seemingly drunk on a fermented form of the delicious-looking fruit, Nomura said, “Or was it Paradise of Pure?”

The publisher then actively decided to publish the following response.

SE said, “Hmm!?” to which Nomura replied, “I guess there are no particular untold stories”.
