Yuri manga Young Ladies Don’t Play Fighting Games – which has been running since 2020 and has accumulated eight volumes to date – is getting an anime adaptation from Diomedéa later this year, and Capcom has signed on to make Street Fighter 6 the star of the series.
A live action web drama was previously released for this comic, where Street Fighter 5 replaced the fictional fighting game in the manga, but it makes sense to refresh the story with the franchise’s most recent game.
The plot effectively revolves around a group of students at an all-girls school, where they share a passion for fighting games despite consoles being banned. Eventually, they enter Japan’s biggest fighting game tournament, and it’s effectively about them overcoming impossible odds – with some pretty specific fighting game terminology used.

The art in the anime’s looking good, although weirdly the use of direct-feed Street Fighter 6 footage doesn’t really gel with the rest of the scenes.
There’s no word of this getting an English release just yet by the way, but we’d be surprised if it doesn’t get picked up; Seven Seas publishes the manga in the west, so we suspect it’ll eventually find a home on Netflix or Crunchy Roll.
