Red Dead Redemption 2’s PS5 Version Could Be Announced Next Week

There’s a good chance Red Dead Redemption 2’s long-awaited PS5 version could be announced within the next few days.

While we’re connecting a lot of dots to create this story, we already know from respectable sources that Rockstar is plotting a current-gen version of its jaw-dropping open world opus for release later this year.

And now Rob Wiethoff, the voice of John Marston, has teased “exciting news” on a stream. While he confirms he can’t share the information just yet, he says everyone should know “before Friday”, 20th June.

Wiethoff – who looks like he’s about to explode from excitement – adds that it’s all he can “think about […] especially while playing [Red Dead Redemption]”.

Now it’s possible he could be talking about something else entirely, but when we pair this with the recent rumours regarding a PS5 version of the game, it makes sense. If Red Dead Redemption 2 is getting an upgrade later this year, then revealing it now would make perfect sense.

It could be an exciting week ahead, folks.

It would be really good to see this game get a significant ps5 lift in performance,, and I’d hope for some decent pro features too.
I keep meaning to replay this, but I’ve been waiting for the ps5 release.. It won’t make it a better game, but it’s breathtakingly beautiful environments could sing on a ps5 version, and who doesn’t want to see that 😉

I didn’t like this game at all, really tried my best to get into it and put a good 30 hours into doing so, but it never hit like the first game did. I hope that all the fans of the game really enjoy the remaster (if and when it’s revealed) but this will be a pass from myself this time. I think the hype got the better of me with the original release of 2.

Better load times are always better. Bit late in the day though. I can’t see them making enough money back to cover the costs? Surely anyone who wants to play this game have played it already, great for people that own the game but I can’t see many people buying it fresh for this, especially if they played it already. Great game imo, enjoying DG more though.
Also the most popular part (the online) stopped recieving support about a year ago..

The biggest problem with RDR2 (and indeed many of the major Rockstar titles) are the incredibly clunky control systems. Otherwise I’d be all over this release.

@Bionic-Spencer I was exactly the same. I put around 20 hours in on my first play through but lost Interest and have never gone back, I’ve thought about it when it’s been on a sale. If the ps5 upgrade is significant, ie – fps boost, haptic feedback then I might jump back in at some point.

@Bionic-Spencer I fully completed it and thought the game was an utter chore by the end, perfectly encapsulated by that insufferable epilogue.
Many aspects of it are unmatched and yet other aspects however, are laughably bad.

@Frmknst Doubt it, they stopped support a long while back. No more jobs/content/updates. I suppose they may add some gold to entice players back but I don’t think the online will receive any content sadly. GTV is limitless as to what they can add but because of the setting in RDR2 it’s limited. Unless they were to add flying horses with gatling guns lol.

One of my favorite games of all time. I will definitely playthrough again (for the fourth or fifth time) if this is true. Hopefully R* release a cheap upgrade path for existing game owners.

I really hope this is true. I hope it’s more than just a 60 FPS patch though. I hope the 4k upscaling is fixed on the PS5 version. The checkerboard rendering is horrible. I hope HDR is also fixed. Load times could use an improvement too… Haptic feedback might be nice, but I wouldn’t mind if it isn’t included.

@SBBuds I disagree with what you’re saying. If they price the remaster as a $10 upgrade, and 100,000 people choose to upgrade, that’s $1m. I personally think way more people will be choosing to upgrade. The costs will likely not be very high at all as all the hard work is already done. The improvements to be made won’t require much work to be done. The hard work is already done. Just need to unlock the frame rate to 60 FPS and implement the 4k resolution we have on the Xbox One X. Then pick a few other graphical upgrades from the pc version and optimise for PS5 and Series X. The hard work is already done. It’s just tailoring to current gen consoles. It’s basically 2 weeks worth of work for 2-3 employees.

Played it a few years ago… and while I’ll definitely be up for another playthrough one day, it won’t be for a good few years. Might be one of those games that a decade between playthroughs would actually feel about right for me personally.

Hopefully the 60 fps update happens for the ps5 because 30 fps is bad in 2025 but knowing rockstar I won’t be suprised if they charge full price for the game again which would be a joke but let’s see I don’t mind paying for an update but I’m not paying full price again no chance

This should be my perfect game as I love the Wild West and rockstar games but I bounced off it twice.

I’ve held off a third attempt given these rumours so this could be third times a charm!

As well as 4k60 performance on PS5 I’d love some quality of life tweaks just to make some of the faff with inventory management and doing pretty much anything less arduous. I played this last after Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost, for me, did a much better job of getting out of your way so that you can enjoy the story, world and game – despite being worse that RDR2 in many ways in these areas!

So the questions are will it be a 60fps patch for the PS4 version, will it be a native PS5 version and will that native version be full price, offer an upgrade path or be free for people who own the PS4 version?

Good point. ‘Sensible’ upgrade option and I’d be tempted early. Full price new game and I’ll be waiting for a sale in a few months, although hopefully prior to GTA6 launching!

It’s testament to just how incredibly well made this game is that it is easily one of the greatest video games of all time and yet the actual scripted missions in the game are probably the weakest part. Interested to see how/if they have moved things on for GTA 6 because Rockstar mission design fatigue has been a thing for a long time now.

With regards to any potential remaster, I only played it last year and (tired old mission structure aside) can’t see how there is much room for improvement beyond the FPS. It’s still one of the most beautiful games ever made and probably the greatest open world design ever.

@Dman10 Considering the timeframe, I could see it being announced in a Direct and then the other versions being announced outside the Direct at the same time. Legends Z-A and Splatoon Raiders news does make general Direct seem less likely at this point but a Partner Showcase would still solve Switch 2’s upcoming 3rd party drought.

@Bionic-Spencer I took me 4 tries to get into the game. Every time I got to Valentine I dropped to game. For whatever reason the 4th time was the charm and it become one of my favourite games. But I shouldn’t call it a game. It’s a cowboy simulator and I think treating it like a game was what made me bounce off it the first 3 times.

@Outlawed_Samurai Well lets hope so, I don’t want it to sell bad. I’m assuming you have some experience in the industry? I can’t argue with what you say because I don’t, 2 or 3 people and a couple of weeks work sounds rather quick and easy for a game like this. Wouldn’t they have done it ages ago and do it for all games, if it’s that simple? I wouldn’t know.
Edit: Maybe it’s a marketing tactic? Makes sense to make a mill off an update rather than throw it in for free at the start Or maybe they just didn’t have the means to do it at launch /shrug, who knows?

I’m a console gamer through and through, and love RDR2 (I’ve done the story 3 times). But this feels like one where us console gamers are going to get shafted; there are some PC Mods for RDR2 which are materially tiny, but add loads to replayability; food, thirst and sleep bars for roleplaying; online activities in SP etc. Hobbyists have managed to do these in their spare time on someone else’s code. But R* will likely ignore all that, port over the bare minimum resolution and framerate hotfix, and we’ll lap it up and pay for it.

I’m not asking for a full Resident Evil 2 style ‘Remake’, but I feel like the bar for ‘Remaster’ is insanely low

Hopefully this is a hint for a Nintendo Direct to be around the horizon for next week, so this can be announced for Switch 2? Wishful thinking?

If there’s a $10 upgrade and a Switch 2 version, Rockstar will get a very rare double dip from me at release.

@Scarface82G1 if that’s the case, unless there’s an expansion or something that really adds to the game, I’ll definitely get a Switch 2 version instead! I could see Rockstar opting out of getting an easy $10 out of most in favor of getting $70 out of a few.

I never got round to playing this one. Really enjoyed the first, after a while I figured it was best to wait for either PS5 version or 60fps update.

Everyone talking about 60fps, but as an (ex)XSX owner I can tell you that the biggest upgrade would be the resolution.

The PS4 Pro version on my PS5 looks terrible compared to the XSX version.

I don’t see how John could be super excited about a game mainly about Arthur. Unless…RDR1 is incorporated into RDR2 with that empty New Austin map with Mexico added like we always wanted, then we can start talking.

@Bionic-Spencer 100% agreed, it was the exact same for me. I really loved the first one back when I played it in 2011, however the second one just didn’t hit it for me. Despite that, I still completed the game but there was never really a moment where it felt mind-blowing or exciting enough as it had just got to a point where I wanted it over and done with. However a few years after that, seeing lots of videos about it such as the detail in the world as well as other appreciation/praise of the game has really made me want to play it again and perhaps hope for a different feeling/opinion this time around. The only thing stopping me doing that was the hope for a upgraded PS5 version, but now that looks like it may come into fruition.

Interesting, I’ve seen Rob (John Marston) on several panels and youtube videos. He isn’t that much of a gamer, although he really loves the series. It seems strange that he would be THAT excited about a 60fps patch… I’m starting to think it’s something else

Fingers crossed the multiplayer gets the axe for this remaster, and it’s only the fantastic single player story. Those god awful multiplayer trophies made the og release a tumor I didn’t want to touch, but if they treat this as well as the RDR1 remaster and leave that mp on the chopping block, trophy hunters the world over can rejoice.

This and Gears of War in the same year alongside Mario Kart is the best year in gaming for me ever. All 3 of those games are in my top 5 IP’s all time. So i am very excited. I hope the PS5 Pro get’s ray tracing and better textures.
