Rumoured Chrono Trigger Remake Hasn’t Been Leaked After All

Chrono Trigger Remake

Update []: Eyewitness reports fresh out of Comicon Naples sent Chrono Trigger fans crazy just a few hours ago — but it sounds like the party’s already been cancelled.

During a panel with Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, the veteran developer had apparently mentioned a Chrono Trigger remake, essentially leaking the project to the public.

However, upon review of freshly uncovered footage from the panel (as checked by Gematsu), it seems as though Horii didn’t actually mention the supposed remake at all — it was something that one of the translators said as a kind of half-joke.

When the topic of a remake was brought up, the audience grew excited, and that was enough for some onlookers to go ahead and assume that Horii had let slip Square Enix’s secret.

It’s a real shame, because we’ve been saying for years that Chrono Trigger deserves some kind of revisit on modern consoles. Heck, we’d take a simple remaster at this point.

Original Story: Well, this isn’t a story that we were expecting to write up on a quiet Friday evening!

According to multiple people who attended Comicon Naples earlier today, a panel featuring Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has outed the existence of a Chrono Trigger remake.

Attendees report that Horii simply mentioned the supposed remake, before his translator whispered in his ear. Horii then covered his mouth, only adding to the guilt of his apparent mistake, and the audience lost their minds.

Whispers of a Chrono Trigger remake have been around for years, but nothing truly concrete has ever been leaked. Horii’s obviously quite busy at the moment overseeing the Dragon Quest franchise under Square Enix, so he’d probably know if a Chrono Trigger revival is on the cards.
