Sonic X Shadow Generations, the enhanced remaster of the fan favourite platformer, has now surpassed worldwide sales of 2 million units.

SEGA confirms the stat as part of its latest quarterly earnings report.

The game launched in October of last year to strong reviews, with most heaping praise on the brand new Shadow Generations campaign.

While it’s an impressive milestone to reach, the best-selling 3D Sonic game to date is Sonic Frontiers, which has sold in excess of 3.5 million units.

In its report, SEGA also notes the major success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the latest movie that debuted back in December. It has reached $460 million in worldwide box office revenue.

The publisher has identified that this cross-media approach has given the game a big sales boost.

The news of the game’s success comes on the same day that SEGA has announced the cancellation of Football Manager 25.
