Sony Confirms PS Portal’s Status as ‘DadStation’ in Accurate Ad

The PS Portal has, at this point, become an essential part of our gaming armory and continues to defy expectations to this very day, despite the majority of the PlayStation faithful initially raising their eyebrows at the seemingly redundant device. Sony has released a new trailer for the plucky handheld and certainly knows its audience, highlighting its use case as what we’ve come to refer to affectionately as the “DadStation Pro” (it sounds more serious that way).

While prospective new PlayStation players are born every day, those of us who have grown up alongside the brand, were there at the beginning, and have been purchasing new consoles alongside significant life milestones, are either facing down or well into middle age at this point. Sony is aware of this, and while as a gamer, it’s a bit confronting to relate more with the parent in the ad than with the carefree youngsters, it’s nice to know PlayStation hasn’t forgotten those that made it what it is today.

Released 15th November 2023, the PlayStation Portal came into this world a scant fortnight before this scribe’s own firstborns’ first birthday, and we’ve gotten a shocking amount of use out of the thing ever since, allowing our favourite hobby to continue while remaining at least physically present during priceless family time.
