Now we’re the other side of the holidays, we were hoping to start seeing some improvement regarding the PS5 disc drive situation. However, the add-on is still suffering from shortages and inflated prices from scalpers.

Since the PS5 Pro’s launch in November, the disc drive — compatible with the “slim” PS5 and PS5 Pro — has been hard to come by, whether you buy directly from Sony or go to third-party retailers.

The Pro in particular appears to have caused a big spike in demand due to the drive being a required, separate additional purchase if you want to play games in your physical collection.

At the time of writing, the disc drive is still unavailable from PlayStation Direct, and is equally difficult to find at places like Amazon, Smyths Toys, or GAME.

Frustratingly, the most reliable way to find the disc drive is on resell sites like eBay, but the listings of course have bloated price tags. The regular price is £99.99, but scalpers are charging at least 50 per cent more.

We’ve yet to hear anything from Sony on the matter, but hopefully the company will be increasing production on these, as there’s clearly a high demand.
