American gamers growing up in the 90s, PlayStation <em>is<\/em> Twisted Metal. But in Europe, the series never hit in the same way.<\/p>\n<p>There are a multitude of reasons for that, with marketing and local tastes being among them. But availability was an issue as well: Twisted Metal 3 and Twisted Metal 4 never released outside of USA.<\/p>\n<p>That will change later this week with <strong>PS Plus Premium<\/strong>, as the two car combat outings will finally get a run out on the continent.<\/p>\n<p>In truth, these are somewhat divisive entries, as they were developed by 989 Studios, the now defunct Sony subsidiary based in Foster City.<\/p>\n<div class=\"for-mobile insert insert-label\">\n<div id=\"inject-primis-player\" data-src-primis=\"https:\/\/live.primis.tech\/live\/liveView.php?s=117168&amp;vp_content=plembed39b4tigwxqjz&amp;cbuster=%%CACHEBUSTER%%&amp;playerApiId=primis_player_float&amp;schain=1.0,1!ziffdavis.com,22392450815,1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The internal development team was prolific in the 90s, making many of PlayStation\u2019s flagship sports games for the PS1, including NFL GameDay and Jet Moto.<\/p>\n<p>SingleTrac, who made the first two Twisted Metal games, got acquired by GT Interactive, prompting many of the staff to leave for Incognito Entertainment \u2013 including key creatives like David Jaffe and Scott Campbell.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"object object-youtube\">\n<figure class=\"youtube\" data-videoid=\"pLsmBZjaM0U\" data-start=\"0\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pLsmBZjaM0U?rel=0&amp;hd=1&amp;showinfo=0&amp;modestbranding=0&amp;autohide=1\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Twisted Metal III ... We Also played Vigilante 8 later which was even more fun. I bought Twisted Metal Black and I think it&#8217;s the best one. I got Twisted Metal for PS3 for a couple quid, thinking I had a bargain, only to find it was online only! Wondering if Sony are still making one for the PS5? Prob would&#8217;ve heard something by now if it was. I kinda find it baffling how Sony choose what games to release. There&#8217;s so many iconic games to pick from and they just seem to be sticking to the same series&#8217;.
