class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>xAI has taken its next big step, with the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/xai\/status\/1943158495588815072\" style=\"color:blue\">launch of Grok 4<\/a>, the latest version of its foundational system, which it\u2019s claiming as \u201c<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span><span>the world&#8217;s most powerful AI model\u201d right off the bat.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Grok 4\" data-imagemodel=\"182501\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/jIFjBUv_Wr-_HBDKSQ4cetKlttsmgsSIPyOegClZLRs\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9ncm9rXzQucG5n.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>The latest model has achieved new industry benchmarks in accuracy and relevance, going well beyond human-level thinking on various tasks.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Grok 4 is built on the back of <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span>xAI\u2019s \u201c<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span><span>Colossus\u201d data cluster, which means that it\u2019s able to utilize <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nvidianews.nvidia.com\/news\/spectrum-x-ethernet-networking-xai-colossus\" style=\"color:blue\">up 200,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs<\/a> to power its responses.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> Which is a massive amount of computing power, though xAI still trails Meta in overall potential compute in this respect (Meta reportedly has around <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sherwood.news\/tech\/holding-all-the-chips-meta-has-nearly-600-000-nvidia-h100-gpus\/\" style=\"color:blue\">600,000 GPUs<\/a>, as well as its own AI chips).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Yet even so, as noted, Grok 4 has achieved record high scores on several AI performance tests, including <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GregKamradt\/status\/1943169631491100856\" style=\"color:blue\">ARC-AGI<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/agi.safe.ai\/\" style=\"color:blue\">\u201cHumanity\u2019s Last Exam,\u201d<\/a> which includes 2,500 questions across hundreds of subjects.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Grok 4\" data-imagemodel=\"182502\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/I7UN7hDZSqIRVrUs1BUBUbU6SlpGbNNKywVVttNs3Hk\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9ncm9rXzQ0LnBuZw==.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Indeed, Grok 4 has reportedly achieved top-level performance in most of its tests, while X owner Elon Musk has praised the model as the most functional, valuable AI experience that he\u2019s seen thus far.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>As per <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1943213444477399380\" style=\"color:blue\">Musk<\/a>:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><em><span><span><span><span>\u201cGrok 4 is at the point where it essentially never gets math\/physics exam questions wrong, unless they are skillfully adversarial. It can identify errors or ambiguities in questions, then fix the error in the question or answer each variant of an ambiguous question.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><em> <\/em><em><span><span><span><span>[It\u2019s] the first time, in my experience, that an AI has been able to solve difficult, real-world engineering questions where the answers cannot be found anywhere on the Internet or in books.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>So, Grok 4 performs pretty good, which could help to justify <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/musks-xai-seeks-113-billion-valuation-300-million-share-sale-ft-reports-2025-06-02\/#:~:text=The%20AI%20startup%20acquired%20X,for%20comment%20on%20the%20reports.\" style=\"color:blue\">xAI\u2019s massive valuation<\/a>, and its rapid spending, with Elon\u2019s AI start-up pushing hard to become a genuine player in the broader AI race, and beat out both OpenAI (who <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-03-10\/elon-musk-sam-altman-openai-xai\" style=\"color:blue\">Elon hates<\/a>) and Meta (who Elon hates) for overall market supremacy.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Though beating them will be difficult. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>As noted, Meta still has far more technical capacity than xAI, while OpenAI has a much stronger market presence, at least from a consumer perspective.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>ChatGPT has become synonymous with AI use, and it\u2019ll be tough for xAI\u2019s Grok to beat it on that front, especially as X, which is the primary access point for Grok, continues to lose users.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>But Grok does have its own, standalone app, and xAI is looking to secure deals to provide Grok as the foundational operating system for new AI projects. Which could also include government operating systems and improvements, which Elon\u2019s former crew at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/technology\/archive\/2025\/03\/gsa-chat-doge-ai\/681987\/\" style=\"color:blue\">are looking to implement<\/a>. But then again, maybe Musk\u2019s more recent feud with President Trump will put a dampener on that, which could end up significantly impeding xAI\u2019s monetization opportunities.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>But if Grok 4 performs as well as xAI claims, then maybe securing deals won\u2019t be such a problem, though more recent issues with Musk interfering with xAI\u2019s code, and turning Grok into a racist megaphone, will also no doubt hamper confidence in the system. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>And that does appear to be a feature, not a bug.<\/p>\n<p>In assessing the steps that Grok 4 takes to answer a query, it seems that the process does indeed check in on what Elon thinks, and factors that into its response.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Grok 4 response\" data-imagemodel=\"182518\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/iATMgD6mch2pw0dh4w8pb_xg1SrYNZ5KXO0qF2tNa9o\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9lbG9uc19zdGFuY2UucG5n.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p>Which is pretty concerning, that Elon&#8217;s weighting his own statements higher than others, which could significantly skew Grok&#8217;s responses.<\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Will that end up slowing xAI\u2019s revenue potential, and impacting both X\u2019s AI project and X the platform, which is now part of xAI? It seems likely, and with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/musks-xai-seeks-113-billion-valuation-300-million-share-sale-ft-reports-2025-06-02\/#:~:text=The%20AI%20startup%20acquired%20X,for%20comment%20on%20the%20reports.\" style=\"color:blue\">xAI reportedly valued at $113 billion<\/a>, it\u2019s hard to see how, exactly, it\u2019s going to be able to live up to that price tag if Grok doesn\u2019t significantly exceed expectations. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>On that front, X is also introducing new pricing tiers for Grok access, as a means to generate more money from the project.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Grok 4 benchmarks\" data-imagemodel=\"182504\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/jc0LeACV76AkQv8Vtta14vJx90IIgddNbdqQZ0BMks4\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9ncm9rXzQ1LnBuZw==.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>As you can see in this overview, \u201cSuperGrok\u201d access will cost $30 per month, and is aimed at the general public, while X is also adding a new <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/matiroy\/status\/1943173482843410668\" style=\"color:blue\">\u201cSuperGrok Heavy\u201d tier<\/a> for larger-scale projects.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>SuperGrok Heavy will run multiple Grok systems <\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span><span>in parallel, and then compare their responses to select the best. xAI says that this can help to produce more accurate responses, though SuperGrok will be enough for most use cases.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Basically, if Grok 4 is as good as Grok claims, then it could become a significant earner for the company, and help to generate more income for xAI.
