The update means the PS5 is now closing in on the PS3&#8217;s lifetime sales of roughly 87.4 million. On its current trajectory, PS5 will top it before April 2026, the start of the next fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>During the same three-month period of the year, Sony sold 65.9 million PS5, PS4 games, of which 6.9 million were first-party titles. Overall, 83% of &#8220;full game software&#8221; sales on PS5 and PS4 were for digital versions. Just 17% of the market went to physical copies, which is an even smaller market share compared to last year. PSN&#8217;s monthly active user count remained steady at 123 million.<\/p>\n<div class=\"for-mobile insert insert-label\">\n<div id=\"inject-primis-player\" data-src-primis=\"https:\/\/live.primis.tech\/live\/liveView.php?s=117168&amp;vp_content=plembed39b4tigwxqjz&amp;cbuster=%%CACHEBUSTER%%&amp;playerApiId=primis_player_float&amp;schain=1.0,1!ziffdavis.com,22392450815,1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>With the promise of GTA 6 in May 2026, which will fit into Q1 for the next fiscal year, there&#8217;s potential for PS5 console sales to skyrocket, as the generation&#8217;s biggest game finally releases. Sony may look to partner with Rockstar Games on a marketing deal, allowing it to tie the PS5 closely to GTA 6 and advertise the two products together.
