And what Grok AI allows us to do is to really understand how to match a product of service with the consumer, with some who would find that interesting.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"X ads update\" data-imagemodel=\"184143\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/Ti7HX2eGlh44m1Yz5kXGB9hGJFkzzteP1nn1rnRJ1SQ\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9YX2Fkc191cGRhdGU0LnBuZw==.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>As you can see in this overview, X\u2019s main pitch here is that its advancing Grok AI system is now significantly better at ad targeting, based on systematic understanding of each users\u2019 interests. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Which Musk claims is a major improvement on the past, noting that Twitter\u2019s ad targeting process was \u201csomewhat random,\u201d with virtually no targeting at times. Musk says that Grok has enabled dramatic advances on this front, which means that all users are now seeing more relevant ads in the app.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Grok has also enabled greater brand safety, which has been a major concern on X, with X\u2019s ad team touting the latest brand safety figures based on Grok placement.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"X ads update\" data-imagemodel=\"184142\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/2YfQWE9HLEry2ifl9fLqOnTDO_iPPgfuoPnB92CJcTc\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9YX2Fkc191cGRhdGUzLnBuZw==.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Brand safety was the key reason that advertisers moved away from X after Elon Musk took over at the app, with Musk\u2019s change in approach leading to lower thresholds for ad placement, and seeing many ads shown alongside offensive content. And then, of course, Musk also told advertisers to \u201cgo f*** themselves\u201d if they didn\u2019t like it, and his brash, somewhat reckless approach was enough to prompt the majority of X\u2019s ad partners to re-think their spend. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Some of them have reportedly now come back, with the 2024 election result seemingly <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/elon-musk-x-advertising-spending-data-analysis-mixed-recovery-2025-2\" style=\"color:blue\">prompting some to re-think their X strategy<\/a>. But X\u2019s ad revenue is still well down on what it had been under Twitter, though it is expected to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.emarketer.com\/content\/x-ad-revenue-forecast-2025\" style=\"color:blue\">improve somewhat this year<\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Maybe, with improved AI targeting and placement, that\u2019ll provide a notable boost for X\u2019s ad business. And that\u2019s not the only \u201cimprovement\u201d that Musk and Co. are pitching.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"X ads update\" data-imagemodel=\"184141\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/zyAjWvjSox2T3XH_hqaC9eg7wiBhUttMoU0hl7uQSOw\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9YX2Fkc191cGRhdGUyLnBuZw==.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>The X team has also changed the way ads are displayed in the app, by banning hashtags and restricting emoji use in promotions, while it\u2019s also added a new <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adweek.com\/media\/x-will-give-brands-lower-ad-rates-for-aesthetic-ads-free-of-urls-emojis\/\" style=\"color:blue\">\u201caesthetic score\u201d<\/a> for ads, which sees better-looking promotions, based on X\u2019s systematic assessment, cost less.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><em><span><span><span><span>\u201cBasically, ugly and strident ads are not okay. We\u2019re not saying that an ad has to be a complete work of art, but it can\u2019t be an eyesore. We believe in making the beauty of the overall system better.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>X says that Grok will assess all ad creatives, in order to judge the aesthetics of your ad.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><em><span><span><span><span>\u201cAdditionally, we\u2019ll be rewarding ads that have high-quality, engaging landing pages. So the longer an average user is spending on your website or your app after clicking on an ad, the more preference you\u2019ll get in the auction.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>This measure makes sense, though the aesthetic score not so much, as X hasn\u2019t provided any real measure of how this will improve ad response, based on user input. Measuring the effectiveness of an ad based on engagement tracks with the actual user experience, but the aesthetic score still seems to be largely driven by Elon Musk\u2019s own preferences, not on response data. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>We\u2019ll have to wait and see if that drives improved ad engagement.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Additionally, X is developing new ad formats, like its updated Dynamic Product Ads, which will display relevant products to users based on AI targeting.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"X ads update\" data-imagemodel=\"184140\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/a1l5VR32l0XqK8Q558z-yylH9Vmp978whZ8DD0je7s0\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9YX2Fkc191cGRhdGUucG5n.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Musk also noted that he expects to one day integrate <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/08\/07\/elon-musk-says-x-plans-to-introduce-ads-in-groks-responses\/\" style=\"color:blue\">ads into its <span><span><span>Grok<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span> chatbot<\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span>\u2019s responses<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span><span><span>,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> which would show relevant ads based on their Grok query. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>And eventually, Musk hopes that Grok will be able to handle all of your advertising process, with advertisers simply uploading their info to the system, and letting Grok handle the rest.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><em><span><span><span><span>\u201c<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><em><span><span><span>Grok is good enough that you should be able to upload an ad and do nothing else. Grok will figure out everything from there. You don\u2019t need to do anything at all.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Which sounds very similar to how Mark Zuckerberg has been <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/05\/07\/mark-zuckerbergs-ai-ad-tool-sounds-like-a-social-media-nightmare\/\" style=\"color:blue\">touting Meta\u2019s increasingly AI-driven ads process<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>The final touch will come with \u201cX finance,\u201d which is part of Elon\u2019s broader \u201ceverything app\u201d vision for the platform. Musk says that this will enable X users to buy products on the platform with one click.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>It\u2019s difficult to measure the potential value of X ads at this stage, because while X\u2019s own data shows that it\u2019s losing users, and relevance, X itself claims that it\u2019s actually gaining audience. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>But then again, overall audience numbers don\u2019t mean much to individual brands, because if your target consumers are there, you should be too, and maybe, with improved targeting, powered by Grok, X\u2019s system will now be better at driving results for your brand. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Musk also says that X is where CEOs, heads of state, and \u201cinfluencers in real life\u201d go for information: <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><em><span><span><span><span>\u201cThey don\u2019t go to TikTok, TikTok\u2019s a fine platform, Instagram\u2019s fine, but people of substance go to X.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>That, Musk says, means that X \u201chas buying power in the trillions.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>And he does make a valid point, noting that himself, Marc Benioff, Michael Dell, Larry Ellison are all among the active power players on X. And it\u2019s true, these people are not active, or as active on other platforms.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Could that be worth your attention, and ad dollars?
