Andy was an oddball but a very competent leader, and Shawn Layden was great. They replaced Shawn with Hermen Hulst who was really good, but then got rid of Shuhei Yoshida. They put Jim Ryan in charge who was really bad. They could have bought Scopely for $4.9 billion with $3 billion revenue, but instead Bungie has $300 million revenue. It\u2019s dumb. They didn\u2019t buy people who know how to make live service games. Then they turned all their developers into live service developers. They are bad managers, and they don\u2019t know what they\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Pachter added that Sony needed to buy \u201cwhat they\u2019re not good at\u201d, and should have looked at the likes of King and Zynga instead of a studio that primarily makes console games, like Bungie.<\/p>\n<p>To be fair to the analyst, while he\u2019s not beating around the bush here, the Bungie acquisition does look like a bad one.<\/p>\n<p>Following the recent delay of Marathon, Sony said that it\u2019s looking for ways it can integrate the Destiny maker into its PS Studios umbrella, as its current autonomous management structure is not working out well at all.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time Pachter\u2019s spoken out about the Bungie acquisition, as he previously went on record saying Sony overpaid for the developer out of desperation.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, Pachter presented a solution to PlayStation\u2019s purported predicament:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSony has lost its way, they have no idea what they\u2019re doing. The solution is to get rid of all the people in charge right now and bring back some of the old people or new ones. They pushed out all the smart people.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While it\u2019s hard to argue with some of Pachter\u2019s comments \u2013 the company\u2019s live service push clearly <em>has<\/em> been poorly executed, even if it\u2019s not necessarily a bad idea \u2013 it\u2019s difficult to agree with comments about the firm \u201cnot knowing what it\u2019s doing\u201d when it\u2019s making record-breaking profits, like the $1 billion operating income in its most recent quarter.<\/p>\n<p>For us, we\u2019d like to see Sony start to get back on track by having a more open dialogue with its consumers \u2013 at least attempting to explain its aims and objectives.<\/p>\n<p>But the current management seems utterly uninterested in engaging with fans, and it\u2019s giving rise to all kinds of misplaced speculation about Sony\u2019s current direction.<\/p>\n<p>For us, a little more community outreach would be the best way for PlayStation to set the record straight, but They are still riding the waves of good will from the PS4 era. Everyone bought into this generation in good faith that it would be more of the PS4 era this gen, but its been FAR from it.<\/p>\n<p>Sony wont feel the blow back of this generations decisions until PS6. Not to say they&#8217;ll sale bad because they have no competition. But you have a lot of people including myself that probably will just stick with there PS5s. Sony has proved this gen that there is no reason to upgrade quickly.
