Excessive cellular multiplication dehumanized their body into a bloated mass of incongruous matter. We never actually lay eyes on this amorphous humanoid. But, one might imagine that if we did, it would bare more than a striking resemblance to Horizon Forbidden West. The result of masturbatory self-indulgence and unbridled, imprudent design choices, Forbidden West is a bloated slog of a game. Featuring level design more concerned with scale rather than substance, and stuffed with egregiously eclectic action design. Its design given no particular direction besides, \u201cAAA.\u201d Taking place in a leviathan sandbox, made erroneously enormous simply because it could be. Hosting traversal options ripped from contemporaries and combat derivative of any other open-world, big budget, quota-checking game. Horizon Forbidden West is an exemplary case of the ailments facing the modern gaming industry. All its ambition lies in gorging itself with as many marketable attributes as possible with nary a thought given to their implementation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s kinda a lot of fluff. I mean, I\u2019ve played every AC game, so I\u2019m not going to go around blindly hating the series as so many people do nowadays, nor am I saying that Horizon or Ghost are bad games because they\u2019re similar. Sure, AC doesn\u2019t have giant dinosaur robots, but it does have a historical setting filled with technobabble, which is basically what Horizon does, though the historical setting in Horizon is a fictionalized future.<\/p>\n<p>For the longest time, people said Ghost was the AC game they always wanted, but the parkour and climbing mechanics are honestly more similar in Horizon. Horizon and Ghost games are both typically more polished than AC games and more streamlined. Performances are typically better and style is typically better. So, yes, if they were AC games, they\u2019d be some of the better games in the series. Ghost of Tsushima would definitely be the best of the bunch.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the day though, Sony makes open world, checklist completion style games, so they aren\u2019t THAT removed from Ubisoft, especially this generation where we\u2019ve basically gotten sequel after sequel rather than new IP. Sony\u2019s first party games tend to be a sort of gap between Ubisoft and Rockstar, in a way.<\/p>\n<p>And, yes, I agree. If Aloy was a man, I don\u2019t expect people would be as warm to Horizon either. Sony basically took the Ubisoft formula and did it better for the open world games. I will say this: Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows is really interesting when you play it side-by-side with Ghost of Yotei. They have very similar seeds of their plot, in that they are both set in a past version of Japan with a revenge storyline where the goal is to basically knockout a gang that murdered your family. Thus far, I\u2019d say Yotei\u2019s the better game, but it\u2019s not by as much of a margin as you\u2019d think. It\u2019s truly bizarre the amount of D\u00e9j\u00e0 vu I\u2019m getting in Yotei from Shadows.
