min-height:250px\" data-dfp-id=\"pushsquare\/mobile_web_display\/article\" data-dfp-sizes=\"300x250,300x600\" data-dfp-targeting=\"pos=1,gto=false,experiment=nl-article-mobile-1\" class=\"lazyload\" data-dfp-refresh-direct=\"true\" data-prebid-config=\"Lazy_Load_HP_MPU\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Fellow hardware leaker KeplerL2 recently reported that Sony\u2019s \u201cplan\u201d is to release the PS6 in 2027, so it\u2019d need to go into manufacturing several months before launch in order to ensure ample supply.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what MLID said in a podcast with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@LastStand-Media\">Sacred Symbols<\/a> host Dustin Furman:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI literally have documents showing they\u2019re manufacturing these things in the middle or even early 2027. That\u2019s exactly when they will manufacture the PS6. [They\u2019ve been planning this] as early as two years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>While this all remains rumour for now and is of course subject to change, it does seem increasingly certain now that Sony is aiming for a 2027 launch for its next-gen console.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s consistent with the PS4 generation, of course, which launched in 2013 and was replaced by the PS5 in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>While there\u2019s increasing debate about whether a PS6 is even needed, we imagine Sony will want to avoid the supply issues which plagued the PS5 at launch.<\/p>\n<p>Much of this was caused by global conditions at the time, as the system launched during the height of the pandemic. So, we can certainly believe that, as of now, the organisation is aiming to begin production in early 2027.<\/p>\n<p>MLID also touched a little upon the price of the device in his video, and while a lot of the conversation is mostly based on his own personal educated opinion, he hypothesised that considering the hardware choices the company is making \u2013 including a smaller size and decreased cooling requirements \u2013 it will be able to keep the cost of the console down.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that global economics, like inflation, could impact its goals, but he believes the PS6 will be cheaper at launch than the PS5 Pro, despite being significantly more powerful.<\/p>\n<p>How do you feel about all of this latest speculation? For an extra expensive system with a small user base, many developers just use the raw additional horsepower, and that\u2019s it. If I were a producer, I would be very sceptical when the developers would come to me trying to convince me to spend extra time and money for a PSSR implementation. Since the release of the PS5, RT and ML\/AI has become the main areas of growth with increasingly competent AI upscaling and Frame Gen.<\/p>\n<p>There is a &#8216;reason&#8217; to upgrade as more aand more games will rely on RT\/ML &#8211; but I do think it will be more iterative. You can&#8217;t &#8216;reinvent&#8217; 3D or Surround sound Movie quality audio, with 16m colours, moving to 1bn made little difference compared to the change moving fromn 8 to 32 colours had. Point is, as technology allowed devs to create brand &#8216;new&#8217; genres, game styles etc, the hardware felt transformative. But now, hardware is more iterative &#8211; increasing graphical quality and\/or frame rates rather than enabling devs to create games they couldn&#8217;t before. It is still AMD hardware. Sony is working with AMD on all that to maximize gains. Everything new asks for learning curve but PSSR will allow to cut down time eventually as more it gets implemented. It lines up with the typical cycle. But let&#8217;s not pretend the PS5 Pro is a joke in itself. What is a joke is its price and how Sony (and devs, to be fair) are leveraging it.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is that instead of using that extra power to unlock framerates, push 60+ fps with VRR, or give us meaningful performance modes, most games just slap on a higher resolution or some barely-noticeable RT &#8220;enhancement&#8221; and call it a day. Look at what they did with Ghost of Yotei \u2014 RT barely change the image, but performance barely improves. Very minimal difference compared to base PS5.
