time&#8221;, effectively giving us a rough idea of when to expect the PS6.<\/p>\n<p>Further reports and rumours have planted the flag in 2027 as a potential release year for the next-gen console, arriving when PS5 is about seven years old; that&#8217;s a time frame consistent with previous console handovers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"insert-label centered insert lazyload for-mobile insert-extended lazyload\">\n<div id=\"PS_MPU_X_B68EEC89A8DC31\" style=\"min-width:300px; There have been many fantastic games released only for current-gen machines, of course, but there has been a much greater emphasis on cross-gen releases than ever before.<\/p>\n<p>Games like Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Forbidden West were all brilliant showpieces for PS5, but were also developed for the machine&#8217;s predecessor, taking advantage of a massive install base.<\/p>\n<div class=\"insert-label centered insert lazyload for-mobile lazyload\">\n<div id=\"PS_MPU_X_H68EEC89A8DC78\" style=\"min-width:300px; min-height:250px\" data-dfp-id=\"pushsquare\/mobile_web_display\/article\" data-dfp-sizes=\"300x250\" data-dfp-targeting=\"pos=1,gto=false,experiment=nl-article-mobile-2\" class=\"lazyload\" data-dfp-refresh-direct=\"true\" data-prebid-config=\"Lazy_Load_HP_MPU\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The regularity of cross-gen releases over the last five years has, in some ways, robbed PS5 of the opportunity to truly stand on its own. It has some excellent games that <em>aren&#8217;t<\/em> on PS4, like Returnal, Astro Bot, and Ratchet &amp; Clank: Rift Apart to name just a few, but the refusal to let the older console go has led to a feeling, at least among hardcore fans, that PS5 has yet to come into its own.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture\" data-uuid=\"c13c2d4938686\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"scanlines\" title=\"Talking Point: PS6 Is Coming in a Few Years - How Are You Feeling About It? 4\" href=\"https:\/\/images.pushsquare.com\/c13c2d4938686\/talking-point-ps6-is-coming-in-a-few-years-how-are-you-feeling-about-it-4.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/images.pushsquare.com\/c13c2d4938686\/talking-point-ps6-is-coming-in-a-few-years-how-are-you-feeling-about-it-4.900x.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Talking Point: PS6 Is Coming in a Few Years - How Are You Feeling About It? 4\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>With only an alleged &#8220;few years&#8221; until PS6 is the new hotness, then, it&#8217;s possible that PS5 simply won&#8217;t have its moment to really shine. The PS4 still looms over it, and soon it&#8217;ll be in the shadow of a newer, more powerful machine.<\/p>\n<p>We suppose the silver lining of all this is that the PS5 will likely be supported post-PS6 in much the same way as PS4 has been.<\/p>\n<p>There will always be early adopters of new consoles, but more than ever, we can easily imagine many people being satisfied with a PS5, and upgrading to a PS6 when ready \u2014 perhaps years into its existence.<\/p>\n<div class=\"insert-label centered insert lazyload for-mobile lazyload\">\n<div id=\"PS_MPU_X_N68EEC89A8DC9A\" style=\"min-width:300px; min-height:250px\" data-dfp-id=\"pushsquare\/mobile_web_display\/article\" data-dfp-sizes=\"300x250\" data-dfp-targeting=\"pos=1,gto=false,experiment=nl-article-mobile-3\" class=\"lazyload\" data-dfp-refresh-direct=\"true\" data-prebid-config=\"Lazy_Load_HP_MPU\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This more gradual transition seems to be what&#8217;s kept PS4 in the running, and we expect it&#8217;ll be similar for PS5. Between &#8220;leaked&#8221; tech specs and multiple reports of a handheld version to complement the home console, exactly what Sony&#8217;s 10th generation hardware will be like is very much up for debate.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s to say nothing of potential price points, which are likely to be high \u2014 though apparently not quite so pricey as whatever Xbox is cooking up.<\/p>\n<p>All that being said, we&#8217;re curious to know how <em>you&#8217;re<\/em> feeling right now about the impending next generation of PlayStation. chugging along to keep up like how the Switch 1 couldn&#8217;t keep up with some games the past few years. I understand that games are more expensive to make now, but we went from three Uncharted games and Last of Us on PS3 to a couple of LoU remakes and a pending Naughty Dog game on PS5. There&#8217;s just not enough exclusives on the current systems, I&#8217;m not sure why you would make another system resulting in more expensive game production costs. I do not agree with Cerny that raster performance cannot be significantly improved any further, as that contradicts evolution curve of deferred tiled shading GPUs we can see (primarily coming from Apple).<\/p>\n<p>There is more than one path towards efficiency, mr Cerny. I didn&#8217;t see the need for the PS5 Pro. I don&#8217;t see the need for the PS6.<\/p>\n<p>Ghost of Yotei looks incredible and runs great on my base PS5. Other than that I&#8217;m playing mostly JRPGs and SF6. Neither of which are really taxing the hardware in any way.<\/p>\n<p>Of course there is likely something in the works that will tempt me. Perhaps Witcher 4 will be the thing that tips me over the edge. One thing is for sure though I&#8217;m done fighting other players and scalpers at launch. It&#8217;s just not worth the hassle. I will only buy hardware if a stress-free opportunity presents itself!<\/p>\n<p>Edit: The portable possibility does interest me though. It&#8217;s only now more and more publishers are starting to leave the last gen behind with their big games but not all of them still. I already expected PS5 to be my last PlayStation, and none of these murmurs have changed that. Processing the whites with the colors doesn&#8217;t sound as exciting as AMD hoped it would.<\/p>\n<p>Though that&#8217;s not really a failure on Sony&#8217;s part so much as a decision I made a few years ago. Switch 2 will probably be my last Nintendo console (&#8230;maybe), and I&#8217;m waiting to see if I&#8217;ll finally buy a Series as my last Xbox or skip that generation and grab whatever&#8217;s next. This is just my trajectory as a gamer. I&#8217;d rather buy some retro all-in-ones and work through my endless backlog while getting the occasional old cartridge. First system I had was an Intellivision, and I have bought a ridiculous amount of consoles and games since. Of course I say that now, but I&#8217;m sure when either the Lies of P sequel (especially if they do the tease at the end) or the new Black Myth game I&#8217;ll end up giving in. We\u2019re in the 4\/5 period now, about to enter 5\/6. With costs of Hardware going up as well as Consoles requiring at least &#8216;Essential&#8217; tier Subscriptions just to play ALL the games and content, unlock all the features etc. Multiply that up by however many Consoles you have (I have had at least 2) and the &#8216;cost of 5-7yrs of Subscriptions (at the &#8216;current&#8217; rate but could go up) and I could build a very high end PC for that cost and have a MASSIVE Library of games I can play &#8211; inc ALL Xbox releases, some Playstation releases and a LOT of old gen Console games (Sony, Nintendo, Xbox, Sega, NeoGeo etc) via Emulation. Being on PC, there are Handheld Options and Cloud streaming options to other devices too but NO Sub fees to play online with friends.<\/p>\n<p>Cost, Games, Hardware\/Tech, aesthetics &amp; BC are very important to me. If I can&#8217;t bring my Library forward or the Games aren&#8217;t &#8216;unique&#8217; just look\/play better, the difference between next and current gen isn&#8217;t that impactful or the console is ugly and won&#8217;t fit in my AV Unit (horizontal slot), these will all have a big impact on whether I buy a next gen Console or not &#8211; I may just keep my PS5 for all my old PS games and move to PC. I&#8217;m not knocking it, but if you compare the PS4 games to the PS5, there is no comparison. If you tell me there is going to a large amount of Sony titles between now and 2027, fine, but I don&#8217;t really see them even talking about much, so it would have to be some surprise drops in there. I don&#8217;t know if they are they great at keeping secrets. Ps2 once gta3 launched a year later. I bought ps3 when slim came out that Xmas and ever since then I bought pa4, ps4 pro, ps5 and ps5 pro, ps portal day one. Never bought psp.<br \/>I bought vita, psvr, psvr2 all after a year on the market.<\/p>\n<p>However, I wont be buying ps6 day one this time. I will get one. Maybe a year or so after launch. <br \/>This mainly due to the backlog, and the fact I no longer buy games brand new because of the backlog. I find I am playing either ps4 games or upgraded ps4 games more these days. I have bought far more ps3 games recently.<\/p>\n<p>I think the only way I would buy ps6 day one is if it could run ps3 games, and bonus if it can upgrade them. Then I could sack off ps3 finally and just game on one system.<\/p>\n<p>I dont care if the games go on pc day one. I dont want a PC for gaming. I want pick up and play. I love playing games on the Portal. I just wish they open up, so I can stream all my library ps3 to ps5 on it. I&#8217;m thinking about buying a ps5 Pro and a psvr 2 at the moment. I&#8217;m hearing some people here think the ps5 is the worst gen PlayStation but I have to disagree because all those games that ran in 30fps on the ps4 that I wished were 60fps now are and I&#8217;m really happy I got to replay them all again. I&#8217;ve had more fun on my ps5 than on any other PlayStation I&#8217;ve owned and I think I&#8217;ll stick with it for as long as its supported and then look towards what the ps6 brings to the table. Not interested in building another pc as its just too expensive for what I&#8217;d want to play the games at the fidelity I&#8217;d expect. It\u2019s almost true! A game takes 4-5 year development time, on average. Sometimes longer. And new console generations are still coming out every 7 years.<\/p>\n<p>How is a game developer supposed to keep up? If they don\u2019t start development in the first 2 years of a console\u2019s release then by the time their game is ready it\u2019s already on an outdated console generation! PS2 disc one day, PS3 digital version the next &#8211; whatever. The compute power is already available on PS5.<\/p>\n<p>That sounds far too consumer-friendly though, so I&#8217;m not holding my breath.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that?
