class=\"external\">Halo: Combat Evolved<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Even though this author was fresh faced and a lot less cynical in 2001, he still remembers that tedious trudge through blue-grey corridors, fighting endless waves of Flood.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s something Bungie has reflected on in the years since the game\u2019s release, observing it should have paced the stage much better.<\/p>\n<p>Next year\u2019s remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved, has a chance to correct that \u2013 and writing on the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.xbox.com\/en-us\/2025\/10\/24\/halo-campaign-evolved-answering-the-big-questions\/\">Xbox Wire<\/a>, creative director Max Szlagor has explained how his team intends to approach things like better wayfinding, navigation, and diversity in enemy encounters. In The Library specifically, which features several Flood encounters, we wanted to reevaluate the pacing and enhance the environmental storytelling. We&#8217;ve added new lines to Guilty Spark, which guide players through the level, and there\u2019s new dialogue that gives more insight into the narrative as it plays out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So, it sounds like developer Halo Studios intends to beef up the lore during this section, and also accelerate the pace to keep you engaged. That sounds like a good approach to us.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, this new version of the game will feature four-player online co-op, so the team has had to go back and re-design all of the game\u2019s encounters anyway. There\u2019ll also be new weapons and vehicles to help keep things feeling fresh.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, we\u2019re optimistic about the work that\u2019s being put into this.<\/p>\n<p>For as monumental as Halo: Combat Evolved was upon its original release, it could use some touching up in key areas these days.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s hoping these tweaks will really help elevate the experience to the It&#8217;s not my favorite level, and the encounters are too long and repetitive. But I always thought it was an interesting departure from the level design of the rest of the game. It still works, it&#8217;s just a little clunky. But that&#8217;s kinda the charm of art, ya know. On that note, my purist heart feels compelled to poo-poo any significant design changes any remake makes.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Cursed Halo Again had the right idea by prefacing The Library with a Mario Kart Grand Prix. Playing through half the level with S.O.P.H.I.A. didn&#8217;t hurt, either.<\/p>\n<p>EDIT: Also, upon reflection, I feel like the player was intended to feel lost and frustrated. Because having Guilty Spark calmly humming about while you&#8217;re in hell adds a lot of animosity between the player and that character. If I wanted to play that game, I&#8217;d just play the Original &#8211; or more likely, played the Original when it was &#8216;fresh&#8217; and &#8216;new&#8217;, when it was the best looking game and\/or unique in the Console space at the time &#8211; not playing some OLD and very Dated game (mostly because of Hardware limitations of that era) even if it looks like a modern game.<\/p>\n<p>I think all &#8216;remakes&#8217; should be made as if they were about to make that &#8216;Story&#8217; for the First time and the &#8216;OG&#8217; is more like Concept art for the new game. Areas they can expand on should be, the encounters too should be expanded on too.<\/p>\n<p>I think of Peter Jacksons &#8216;remake&#8217; of King Kong which hits every main Story beat of the Original but adds a LOT more depth to it, lot more background and Context to the story and its characters etc. Kong fights just 1 T-rex in the Original but 3 in the remake because it goes &#8216;bigger&#8217; and expands on what came before. Its telling the Same Story, but it does it in a way that still &#8216;honours&#8217; the Original but adds more deptch and modern visuals to it.<\/p>\n<p>There is something about Ray Harryhausen and his stop-motion animation they used in King Kong, but the &#8216;Digital&#8217; CGI of the Peter Jackson movie is much more &#8216;lifelike&#8217; and fluid, far more &#8216;believable&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t play &#8216;OLD&#8217; games remastered unless they bring something &#8216;new&#8217; and I don&#8217;t mean just a visual upgrade. It felt oppressive. It was supposed to. It was a sigh of relief when I beat it. I feel like that was the point. It looked endless and samey but with purpose. Floods are the same way. Relentless and brutal. That level didnt care and tested your attrition lol. Im probably in the minority there but it was a widely talked about level amongst me and my boys. It was a badge of honor getting through it.
