Who the heck is searching for <\/span><\/span><\/span><span><span>\u2018<\/span><\/span><span><span><span>ex-coworkers who became founders in healthcare in NY,\u2019 or has enough coworkers who\u2019ve become founders in healthcare that they can\u2019t recall the specific one that they\u2019re looking for?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Silicon Valley perspective skew aside, it could be a much easier way to find relevant matches on LinkedIn, by using plain language queries to find people, which could also help to give you very specific matches, without having to use LinkedIn\u2019s filters.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Though I wonder how deep it goes. If I search for \u2018that one guy in my network who embarrassed himself by posting about his daughter\u2019s friends,\u2019 I wonder whether it\u2019ll be able to give me that match. What about \u2018people in my network with criminal convictions\u2019?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>This was the problem with <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.ycombinator.com\/item?id=5100679\" style=\"color:#0563c1\">Facebook\u2019s Graph Search<\/a> back in the day, with people quickly working out that you could use it to find less-than-ideal information about people and entities within your network. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Facebook Graph Search\" data-imagemodel=\"152096\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/lcXxdGLvUIkh1tCZS6CdBRHyXY1wztv72WvkZInAkgM\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9ncmFwaF9zZWFyY2hfZXhhbXBsZV9HT1B3NENQLnBuZw==.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Of course, LinkedIn search can presumably only find matches based on the data posted in the app, and because everyone\u2019s trying to put their best foot forward on the professional social network, there\u2019s unlikely to be anything too embarrassing. But if it can also cross-match profile info with posts, there could be some unfortunate discoveries. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Maybe that\u2019s not so bad, maybe it\u2019s actually better to know this stuff about people in your network, so maybe this is a feature, not a bug, within this new system. But it\u2019ll be interesting to see what results it produces, and whether users are happy with how they\u2019re represented in these displays. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>LinkedIn added similar conversational language queries for job seekers back in May, with its evolving AI tools now able to provide more insight, based on LinkedIn\u2019s unmatched professional database.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>And with parent company Microsoft continuing to invest billions into AI projects, you can bet that it\u2019s keen to make AI the focus, which is why you can now use AI in virtually every aspect of your LinkedIn experience. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>But don\u2019t use it for posting comments, or coming up with posts, or really doing anything that misrepresents your actual skills or capacity. Because if your presence ever amounts in any real work or job offers, they\u2019re gonna\u2019 find out.
