Valve\u2019s new Steam Machine and that means it\u2019s difficult to determine just how competitive it\u2019ll be against the PS5.<\/p>\n<p>But a report that\u2019s doing the rounds via <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/dnKy4UEdiyo?si=d71fbQ6wP_ywo2up&amp;t=2222\">Linus Tech Tips<\/a> suggests the new console-like hardware won\u2019t necessarily be going head-to-head with Sony\u2019s system when it comes to affordability.<\/p>\n<p>As part of a story shared by <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dexerto.com\/youtube\/linus-tech-tips-disappointed-steam-machine-wont-be-priced-like-a-console-3284996\/\">Dexerto<\/a>, the YouTuber noted bad \u201cenergy\u201d during a recent preview session when he alluded to the upcoming device having a \u201cconsole price\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"for-mobile\">\n<figure class=\"youtube with-primis\" data-videoid=\"y-XGB8_bQ3s\" and Valve\u2019s staff may just be playing their best poker face.<\/p>\n<p>But considering the Steam Machine is weaker than the PS5, its overall value proposition would have to be questioned if it ends up costing <em>more<\/em> than Sony\u2019s console.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, there are still advantages to the appliance, such as its open nature and access to Steam\u2019s cavernous library \u2013 but as Linus Tech Tips himself points out, we think it\u2019ll be a tough sell if it costs upwards of $600.<\/p>\n<p>To be fair, Valve is probably not targeting the mass market with this product anyway, so it may not matter all that much in the grand scheme of things. Plus Steam games are so, so much cheaper than PS5 games and can also be acquired from a million other sources, Humble Bundles and so forth. Emulators too. I personally have no use for this but I can see it being a great first step towards Valve carving out more of a space in hardware, they just need to get it into retailers rather than direct order in my opinion.
