Typically, these re-releases feature expanded and \/ or improved content, and are often labelled as &#8216;definitive&#8217; versions of the original title.<\/p>\n<p>Generally speaking, potential buyers have become more and more critical of this practice over the years. Reportedly, numbers for such titles have fallen off, despite them receiving critical acclaim and positive feedback from players.<\/p>\n<p>In response, SEGA outlines a number of possible factors, including busy release schedules and competition from similar games.<\/p>\n<p>However, it goes one step further in actually admitting that the possibility of future definitive editions may make customers &#8220;hesitant&#8221; when a new title hits the market.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, this is a sentiment that we often see expressed across social media and our own comments sections. For example, there were <em>plenty<\/em> of people around Metaphor&#8217;s launch saying that they would simply hold out for the seemingly inevitable re-release.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the Metaphor re-release hasn&#8217;t actually happened yet, and rumours have <em>suggested<\/em> that Atlus intends for it to be a singular entity. Sometimes the remix\/re-release content isn&#8217;t worth it anyway. I get more excited for prototypes ideas then final or re-release content. So to me it isn&#8217;t exciting at all.<\/p>\n<p>They could also just use other IPs well and we would be interested, they haven&#8217;t so I haven&#8217;t cared to support them at all. Square tried their new IPs and well I bought them, they flopped so no reason for me to bother supporting them anymore.<\/p>\n<p>If they do this to every release you just wouldn&#8217;t buy it and know something is better, find other games to play in the mean time, so why bother.<\/p>\n<p>I only buy different editions if it&#8217;s a deluxe with an artbook\/OST digitally by AA Japanese devs nowadays, or the odd physical AA game that just happens to have an artbook, or because i want the standard edition physical but I only get 1 edition and that&#8217;s it. Otherwise I don&#8217;t care and it&#8217;s standard edition digital or physical. I haven&#8217;t been that into Sega IPs really the past few years. Valkyria Chronicles I guess besides older releases that aren&#8217;t on eshops. That&#8217;s about it. Otherwise I&#8217;ll wait for physical copies of Sega GT 2002.<\/p>\n<p>If it&#8217;s just for Atlus games it will be annoying (hopefully not Atlus published either and it spreading) but doesn&#8217;t affect me that much.
