It\u2019s proven so successful in its first six months on the market that the Mario maker has <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nintendolife.com\/news\/2025\/11\/switch-2-sells-over-10-million-units-nintendo-increases-forecast-even-further\" class=\"external\">actually increased its forecasts<\/a> for the format\u2019s first fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>But in the UK, as of the end October, the PS5 still rules supreme.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thegamebusiness.com\/p\/the-state-of-games-october-2026\">The Game Business<\/a> (paywalled) reports that despite seeing its year-over-year sales decline by 15%, likely due to price hikes, it\u2019s keeping its nose in front of the Switch 2 and remains the best-selling console of the year in Britain.<\/p>\n<div class=\"for-mobile\">\n<figure class=\"youtube with-primis\" data-videoid=\"y-XGB8_bQ3s\" data-start=\"0\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y-XGB8_bQ3s?rel=0&amp;hd=1&amp;showinfo=0&amp;modestbranding=0&amp;autohide=1\">\n<div class=\"video-stage\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Top 10 Best PS5 Games Of 2024 (So Far) | PlayStation 5\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y-XGB8_bQ3s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p class=\"youtube-sub\">Subscribe to <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"external\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/pushsquare?sub_confirmation=1\">Push Square<\/a> on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"sub-button external\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/pushsquare?sub_confirmation=1\"><span class=\"subs-label\">YouTube<\/span><span class=\"subs\">166k<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Obviously, the PS5 has the advantage of being a more mature piece of hardware, and has been available for the entirety of 2025 where Nintendo\u2019s new console didn\u2019t launch until 5th June.<\/p>\n<p>But the Switch 2\u2019s debut was a particularly big one, so it\u2019s impressive to see the PS5 stay in front of it.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, in October specifically, Sony\u2019s console registered a 36% increase in sales which saw it assert its position as the best-selling system of the month.<\/p>\n<p>And the platform holder has a very strong selection of Black Friday deals which has already seen it dominate in Spain, so expect it to enjoy an even stronger November overall.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it can hold on against the Switch 2 over Christmas remains to be seen. Some readers may note that the UK has always been a more challenging territory for Nintendo, even though it still enjoys plenty of success there.<\/p>\n<p>Sony, we suspect, won\u2019t be thinking too much about the competition and just focusing on bringing players into its ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>Its console is now closing on the 100 million units milestone, and with a strong holiday there\u2019s a You\u2019re seeing an increased index of PS4 players this year upgrading as well. Marathon releasing around March ( I\u2019m hoping it will be a fun title). GTAVI releasing in the fall maybe October with Wolverine probably coming before it in September. This seems to be a good year with first party releases with GTA moving consoles in the Q4.<\/p>\n<p>I also have a Switch 2 and it\u2019s selling right now of course with it only picking up steam from here. But for me I\u2019m waiting for some more games. It\u2019s just been sitting at home, I\u2019ve been playing BF6 and Arc Raiders at the moment on my Pro. And my daughter she doesn\u2019t really play it that much yet either. Just been taking over my PS5 to play Roblox.<br \/>\nMetroid and Hyrule Warriors look good to me.. But since the release of the Switch, they have been very successful in the UK, with the Switch outselling Xbox One in the region and their games frequently being in the charts. PlayStation has the bigger brand recognition here and the games that appeal to the UK market more, but that won&#8217;t stop Switch 2 from being successful here. I definitely do feel Nintendo will continue to do their best to get more push in the UK market. I&#8217;ve seen a ton of different deals for Black Friday with Switch 2 from the standard console, to the MK bundle to even MK and Donkey Kong Bananza together for a cheaper price. Not insane deals like the PS5 ones but still decent offerings for a system that has only been out half a year. I own both systems and enjoy them, but right now the Switch 2 has been taking up my time. The Pro Controller 2 is my new favourite controller and there are tons of first and third party games to play on it. (I tend to ignore article titles for the reasons I see you and others discussed above.)<\/p>\n<p>Part of my job (and university education) is around data analysis and use of that analysis, and despite the fact that I suppose you could say that I am firmly &#8216;on the side of PS5&#8217; (because I have no interest in owning a S2), the &#8216;conclusions&#8217; being reached were not what I would class as even partly &#8216;robust&#8217;, so I was agreeing with yourself and Mr\/Ms Moose in this regard.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the only point of interest is the fact that in October PS5 outsold S2, but even that is somewhat dubious in its value &#8211; is there such a thing as a post launch slump (where shortages are non existent of course)? Nintendo had a pop-up store in London for what seemed like a few weeks and then it was gone, they should have done it closer to Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>To make things worse they had a ticketing system (queuing) I picked up a few collectibles\/plushes and would have gone back but it was gone. Sony don&#8217;t need to do that because they have a marketing stranglehold in the UK. Pop-up stores are meant to create a conversation through engagement, which could have worked in their favor had they spent more of that time showing what the Switch 2 can do. I don&#8217;t even think I saw it there. They had an endless supply of plushes and models from their different franchises which would make great stocking stuffers but that was about it.
