surrounding comments made by Larian gaffer Swen Vincke.<\/p>\n<p>As part of a much bigger <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/newsletters\/2025-12-16\/-baldur-s-gate-3-maker-promises-divinity-will-be-next-level\">Bloomberg<\/a> interview \u2013 where he confirmed the new Divinity game will be turn-based and released potentially sooner than expected \u2013 he commented on his company\u2019s use of generative AI.<\/p>\n<p>In the article, it\u2019s claimed that Larian is using the controversial new technology to flesh out \u201cPowerPoint presentations, develop concept art, and write placeholder text\u201d.<\/p>\n<div class=\"for-mobile\">\n<figure class=\"youtube dir=\"ltr\">Holy fuck guys we\u2019re not &#8220;pushing hard&#8221; for or replacing concept artists with AI.<\/p>\n<p>We have a team of 72 artists of which 23 are concept artists and we are hiring more. The art they create is original and I\u2019m very proud of what they do.<\/p>\n<p>I was asked explicitly about concept art\u2026<\/span>\u2014 Swen Vincke @where? (@LarAtLarian) <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LarAtLarian\/status\/2001011042642505833?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 16, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/aside>\n<p>But this clarification didn\u2019t stop the quotes from going viral, prompting the executive to respond on <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LarAtLarian\/status\/2001011042642505833\">X<\/a> (or <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LarAtLarian\/status\/2001011042642505833\">Twitter<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cHoly f*ck guys, we\u2019re not \u2018pushing hard\u2019 for or replacing concept artists with AI.<\/p>\n<p>We have a team of 72 artists of which 23 are concept artists and we are hiring more. The art they create is original and I\u2019m very proud of what they do.<\/p>\n<p>I was asked explicitly about concept art and our use of Gen AI. I answered that we use it to explore things. I didn\u2019t say we use it to develop concept art. The artists do that. And they are indeed world class artists.<\/p>\n<p>We use AI tools to explore references, just like we use Google and art books. At the very early ideation stages we use it as a rough outline for composition which we replace with original concept art. If you want to hate them entirely on those assets being in the game in the first place I won&#8217;t try to argue against you, but I do feel like the speed at which they responded to the criticism tells me that they realised how damaging having Gen-AI in their game is and will (hopefully) not do it again in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately I don&#8217;t really get that same vibe of regret and understanding from Vincke here.
