And in addition to emails, they\u2019re also targeting people on LinkedIn, so today, LinkedIn has outlined how it\u2019s looking to combat such, along with some tips on how to avoid job scams.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>LinkedIn\u2019s VP of Product Oscar Rodriguez has shared a <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/searching-new-role-how-linkedin-helps-you-stay-safe-spot-rodriguez-fme7e\/?trackingId=Fp4PODiS24U9JOQLBlua5Q%3D%3D\" style=\"color:#0563c1\">new overview of the platform&#8217;s latest updates on this front<\/a>, including improved scam detection, new verification requirements, AI-powered resume tools and more.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>First off, on scam detection, which has now become a broader focus for LinkedIn, as it looks to combat misleading engagement and fake profiles in the app. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>Rodriquez says that over the last few months, LinkedIn has increased its trust signals, including <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrdive.com\/news\/linkedin-expands-company-page-verification-adds-recruiter-verification\/759338\/\" style=\"color:#0563c1\">new requirements <span>around workplace verification<\/span><\/a>, which will provide more assurance on job listings.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>LinkedIn has seen solid take-up of its free verification process, which uses third-party validation to attach a government ID to your profile, and then adds a verification checkmark beside your name.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"LinkedIn executive verification\" data-imagemodel=\"185447\" src=\"https:\/\/imgproxy.divecdn.com\/G1w31cRXeufcZ5T-_x2UisOw3JEFfX67M5_DFPqiTm0\/g:ce\/rs:fit:1600:0\/Z3M6Ly9kaXZlc2l0ZS1zdG9yYWdlL2RpdmVpbWFnZS9saW5rZWRpbl9leGVjX3ZlcmlmY2F0aW9uLnBuZw==.webp\"\/><\/div>\n<p><span><span><span><span>Businesses can now also verify that they\u2019re the legitimate presence of a company, and that\u2019s added an extra layer of assurance and security for job listings in the app.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>LinkedIn\u2019s also improved its scam detection tools, while its <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/help\/linkedin\/answer\/a542831\" style=\"color:#0563c1\">inbox filters<\/a> now demote contact from questionable accounts that are not in your network to your Spam folder<span><span><span>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>And as noted, LinkedIn is also cracking down on automated comments and profiles, which can create a misleading impression of presence in the app. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>It\u2019s also removing more fake company pages, and it\u2019s increased its enforcement of repeated violations, while it\u2019s also added new<\/span><span> AI tools that can help you tailor your job applications directly on LinkedIn.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>Which, Rodriguez says, will reduce reliance on third-party services, which are increasingly associated with job scams. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><em><span>\u201cIn fact, more than a third of job scams now involve low-quality CV-writing services.<span><span><span>\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>Probably best to avoid those.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>In addition to its own efforts, LinkedIn says that job seekers should remain wary of potential signals of concern in the app:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><span><span><span><strong><em><span>Take care with what you share.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><em>Consider what personal information you are being asked for. If you see a verification badge on a profile, that means the member\u2019s identity or workplace has been verified by one of our third-party partners.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><span><span><span><strong><em><span>Keep your interactions on LinkedIn:<\/span><\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em><em>Scammers are 2x more likely to ask you to move the conversation off-platform than a genuine interaction, and the majority of scams and fraud happen through fake accounts, which LinkedIn typically removes quickly. That means bad actors will quickly ask to move the conversation off LinkedIn before their account is removed.
