picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Blizzard&#8217;s putting plans in motion to try and revive Overwatch 2 \u2014 or just simply Overwatch, as it&#8217;ll now be named.<\/p>\n<p>Yep, the team&#8217;s ditching the idea of this being a numbered sequel roughly three years after its initial launch.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not quite accurate to say that Overwatch has been bombing since the arrival of Overwatch 2 back in October 2022, but it&#8217;s simply never been able to live up to the highs of the original release.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s never had the momentum, the hype, or the support that made the property such a huge hit in the first place.<\/p>\n<div class=\"for-mobile insert insert-label\">\n<div id=\"inject-primis-player\" data-src-primis=\"https:\/\/live.primis.tech\/live\/liveView.php?s=117168&amp;vp_content=plembed39b4tigwxqjz&amp;cbuster=%%CACHEBUSTER%%&amp;playerApiId=primis_player_float&amp;schain=1.0,1!ziffdavis.com,22392450815,1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The idea, then, is to put the newly named Overwatch back in the spotlight, and the developer&#8217;s kicking things off with the launch of five new playable heroes: Domina (tank), Emre (damage), Anran (damage), Mizuki (support), and, er, Jetpack Cat (support).<\/p>\n<p>They all arrive next week, on the 10th February, as part of the game&#8217;s all-new &#8216;Season 1&#8217;. An additional five heroes will apparently be dropping throughout the rest of 2026.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"picture\" data-uuid=\"7ae3c58516d6f\"><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"scanlines\" title=\"Overwatch New Characters\" href=\"https:\/\/images.pushsquare.com\/7ae3c58516d6f\/overwatch-new-characters.large.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/images.pushsquare.com\/7ae3c58516d6f\/overwatch-new-characters.900x.jpg\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Overwatch New Characters\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>What&#8217;s more, &#8216;sub-classes&#8217; are being introduced, giving each existing character a more specialised role, branching out from their usual class. Naturally, the goal is to breathe new life into the shooter&#8217;s roster, while also adding some gameplay depth in the form of new passive perks.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;ll be interesting to see if Overwatch regains some ground over the next few weeks. Again, it still has a relatively stable audience, but it&#8217;s been struggling to compete with similar titles \u2014 including Marvel Rivals, a game that was so obviously inspired by Overwatch \u2014 for quite some time.<\/p>\n<p>How do you feel about this Overwatch revival? While promoting OW2 they promised a lot, including an extensive PvE mode with leveling, perks, etc. everybody (including me, who played OW since release day) was hyped, and when the patch to ow2 was released, it was first that they will do first the PvP changes and the PvE part will arrive later. More lies since later it was leaked that at time time it was clear internally that PvE was scrapped. As the game went on, constant rebalancing, trying to make a game for eSports above normal players, lack of new content, stagnating player base, just&#8230;mostly all of the OW2 changes, and barely doing anything for seasonal events down the line. In fact, I might argue adding new characters was actually a problem in itself; it made the game too much effort to keep up with.<\/p>\n<p>It never became a bad game.
