Xbox Now Selling PS5 Games for $80, Joins Switch 2 in Price Increase

Microsoft has announced it’s raising the prices of all its Xbox Series X|S consoles, accessories, and games, effective as of today. Most importantly for PS5 owners, the Xbox games Microsoft ports to Sony’s current-gen console will now cost $80 going forward.

Previously ported games, like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Forza Horizon 5, won’t be affected by the price increase. However, from the “holiday season” onwards, Xbox games will cost $80. With the Game Pass subscription on PS5, that’s the price you’ll need to pay to play Microsoft’s ports. Of course, it was Nintendo that started this trend with next month’s Switch 2 launch title Mario Kart World.

The Xbox Series X|S systems and associated accessories are also going up in price. The Series S boxes are increasing by $80 and the Series X models are going up by $100. This means that the 2TB Xbox Series X model in Galaxy Black is actually $30 more than the upgraded and enhanced PS5 Pro.

Special edition controllers and the Xbox Wireless Headset are also now facing a $10 increase.

This means Microsoft has joined Sony in hiking the price of its current-gen systems, as PS5 most recently went up in the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand last month. Many more ports from Microsoft are rumoured for the coming months, including Halo and Gears of War collections. You might need to pay $80 to play them on PS5.

How do you react to this news? Do you think Sony will join the trend? Let us know in the comments below.
